![]() ![]() The sound waves will travel up the cervix and into the uterus. In a transvaginal ultrasound, the sonographer will insert a specially shaped device into the vagina. Rather than use a transducer to send sound waves through the stomach, there is another way to have an ultrasound. A warm gel is applied on to the stomach to reduce any chance of resistance between the transducer and the skin, making for a clear image. About an hour before the ultrasound, you will be asked to drink water so your bladder will fill up and lift your uterus, making the images clearer. The 2D ultrasound allows you to see your baby’s internal organs such as the heart, the position of the baby, placenta, and cord, and its size and growth can also be seen.
